Trauma Surgeon / Surgical Critical Care Physician | Locums | Massachusetts

WORKSITE SETTING: · Academic medical center · Inpatient trauma surgery service · Surgical critical care program · Regional referral and trauma center environment SCOPE OF WORK: · Provide inpatient trauma surgery coverage · Manage critically ill surgical and trauma patients · Perform emergency surgical evaluations and interventions · Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams, APPs, and residents · Participate in call coverage for trauma and emergency general surgery services CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: · Manage daily trauma census of approximately 30-50 patients shared across two attending physicians · Respond to approximately 10-20 trauma activations during a 24-hour period, primarily blunt trauma cases · Evaluate and manage emergency general surgery consults as needed · Perform emergent operative cases including time-sensitive surgical interventions · Supervise and collaborate with residents and advanced practice providers VOLUME | SUPPORT: · Trauma inpatient census: 30-50 patients · Trauma activations: 10-20 per 24-hour period · Emergency general surgery consults: 0-8 per call period · Operative emergencies: 0-3 cases per call period · APP support: 2 daytime APPs and 1 nighttime APP · Resident support: PGY3 and PGY4 residents plus intern coverage START DATE: · 12/01/2026 ASSIGNMENT LENGTH: · 17 weeks through 03/31/2027 with potential for ongoing coverage needs SCHEDULE: · Weekday clinical coverage: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM · Weekday call: 4:00 PM – 7:00 AM · Weekend call: 6:00 AM – 7:00 AM · Coverage required Monday through Sunday · Approximately 16 open shifts currently available in December with additional opportunities January through March
